High-precision spindle-driven linear stages (DC- or stepper-motor) are available with rotary or linear-encoders. They achieve bi-directional reproducibility of better than 1µm and step sizes smaller than 0.1µm thanks to backlash-free gear heads.
New ultrasonic piezo linearmotors were specially developed for high-speed applications requiring velocities up to 400mm/s.
