PICMA® Multilayer Bender offer bending range of up to 2mm, forces up to 2N and ms response time. The monolithic actuators are made of 50µm thick ceramic layers with internal Ag-Pd electrodes and a ceramic isolation (co-firing).
PICMA® Piezo-Benders offer many advantages over classic bimorph elements (made of 2 ceramic plates glued together): faster response time and higher stiffness.
The main advantage however is the drastically reduced operating voltage of only +/- 30V which is an important feature for applications in medical instruments. In addition the PICMA benders have proven a longer lifetime in static and dynamic applications as they are protected by a ceramic isolation layer against diffusion of water molecules into the active area
