PI Ceramic (founded 1992) offers its own Piezo Ceramic material under the brand name PIC. The ceramic is used internally in the well known nanopositioning systems from PI but can also be purchased from OEM customers who are building ultrasonic transducers, sensors and actuators.
Application of the direct piezo effect:
mechanical forces (pressure, acceleration) are transformed into an electrical voltage (or el. charge).
- Accelerometers
- Ignitors
- Ultrasound receivers (motion sensors)
Applications of the inverse piezo effect:
electrical voltage is transformed into a mechanical movement or vibrations.
- Micro- and Nanopositioning (Piezostacks, Piezomotors)
- Active vibration damping or cancellation
- Micropumps
- Pneumatic valves
- Buzzers
- Power transducers (Bonder, Ultra-sonic cleaning, aerosol generation)
Combined applications:
- Level detection
- Flow meters
- Object recognition
- Medical diagnostics
- Sonar
- Adaptive structures
- High-resolution material testing
